Most of these cases (90 percent) occur in developing countries, while developed countries are estimated to be between 40 and 70 new cases per 100,000 people. Since WHO warns that this problem is no less when it comes to public health concerns. Therefore, and to inform and sensitize the population more generally it is developing a global awareness campaign on epilepsy , while they are strengthening public measures. Thanks to recent medical advances, there have been improvements in diagnosis and treatment : at present, are arranged around twenty antiepileptic drugs , all with proven effectiveness. Anyway, this medical society said that between 25 and 30 percent of epileptic patients are resistant to drug therapy and do not have a treatment to prevent or modify the development of this condition, hence have to be found other courses of action.
